The Equal Rights Amendment
The Equal Rights Amendment was written by Alice Paul in 1923. It was brought to congress in the same year. In 1972 the document passed through congress and was ready to be ratified by the states. Unfortunately, this amendment fell short of the deadline to be ratified. Many say the 19th Amendment was not adapted because Phyllis Schlafly prompted conservatives to oppose the document.
